Event Schedule:

11:30 am - Sunfish Orientation # 1 - All RYC members must 1) Have attended one time a Sunfish Orientation and be able to demonstrate the ability to properly rig the boat and have on file 2a) the required signed self-certification statement of one's proficiency to sail a Sunfish, and b) a liability release waiver thereby gaining authorization to use the boats on a self-checkout basis.  Self-certification is a one-time signing, the liability release an annual signing.

1:00 pm - Skippers Meeting

2:00 pm - Race

5:00 pm - Potluck

The race:

"Deerly Beloved Around the Islands Race" (pun intended) at Howard Prairie, Buck, Doe and Fawn.  This is a casual race that will be run as a “pursuit” race.  The premise is; based on handicap ratings the slowest boat starts first with each subsequent faster boat given a delayed time to start racing and begin the pursuit.  The fastest rated boat starts last and the first one to cross the finish line wins!  Additional race details will be outlined at the skippers meeting.

Criteria:

If you plan to enter your boat, you must contact the race director no later than Wednesday June 18th with your intent to enter.  That way, start time calculations can be made for all boats that are racing.  You cannot enter on race day, as start times must be pre-calculated.  Contact John Spillman at volspill@gmail.com.  Please make sure you are specific about your boat type and design. If you are on the fence about entering, you can enter your boat and always make a race day decision on participation.  Your boat will just be removed from the start sequence, e.g., we can drop you on race day, we just can’t add you.

 Boats:

Any sailboat may enter, centerboard, keelboats and multihulls including the club Sunfish if you are so approved as an RYC member to use them.  They are currently at the lake.

Skippers Meeting:

1:00 at the RYC shed, Race starts at 2:00.  You need to have some method of timing your departure such as a stopwatch, e.g., knowing you depart 4 minutes after the first boat, etc.    If you have limited racing experience, this is a great opportunity to race without the stress of negotiating a crowded start line as boats will depart the start line one at a time.  The race shouldn’t take more than about 2+ hours give or take.  The RYC rescue boat will be on the water.

Potluck:

Remember the potluck afterwards at 5:00 ish.  Bring a side dish to share with your entrée to BBQ.  Summer temps are heating up, should be a great day to be at the lake! Hope to see you there.
